Last Sunday was special. I got to witness a miracle. I photographed baby Eaden’s home birth and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
Usually I keep my phone on silence from 6pm to 10am and also when I don’t want to be interrupted during the day. I try to not be on my phone as much as I can. That had to change since I was on call for two weeks before Sunday. Baby Eaden could come at any moment and I needed to be ready. Equipment, mind and outfit ready. Everything ready! It was interesting to be on call and have my phone on the whole time, checking for texts and calls every minute. My husband would laugh at me, I was getting a little obsessive. It was actually funny but since it was going to be my very first time being a birth photographer I was super excited and looking forward for Hannah’s call.
Anyways, the so expected call came in Sunday around 8am. I was sleeping and hearing Hannah’s voice made me smile. She said “I’m ready to take my pictures” with that sweet voice that she has. I knew baby Eaden was ready to make her appearance so I rushed to her. I arrived in about an hour and stayed with them for about 7 hours. Everything was so perfect.
Hannah was amazing. I mean, really amazing!! It was impressive to watch her. The energy was serene and relaxed. Essential oils diffusing, calming music playing. Hannah was so peaceful through out the whole day and at first it was hard to tell when she was having a contraction! Within a few minutes I got into the zone and started to breathe with her, I was meditating, praying and sending her good vibes and blessings thorough out the day. I would take deep breathes and visualize the birth going well and baby Eaden coming out healthy and strong and she did!
Baby Eaden came into the world around lunch time and she was so calm and peaceful, just like her mommy. Hannah’s happiness was contagious. I cried behind my camera. I felt so much joy it was overwhelming. I can only imagine how Hannah and Manny felt.
I stayed a little longer after Eaden was born to get pictures of the family and her two little big brothers meeting her. Their face expressions when they came to meet her was priceless! Such a beautiful family!! I enjoyed every minute of being there with them.
I’m extremely grateful for this experience, for Hannah trusting me and letting me part of it. My heart is full. I even enjoyed the experience of being on call for the first time, it taught me a lot. I actually learned a lot from this experience and being with the Mayo family!
As a photographer, I crave shooting new experiences and being able to capture raw emotions and being part of something bigger than me. So Sunday was more than special, I was part of a miracle and for that I’m grateful. God blessed me with this opportunity and I feel even more inspired to become a mom (soon) and get more into birth photography. I hope this was the first of many.
Many blessings and love to the Mayo Family!!
